More weddingness

On Friday I was at another wedding - one I didn't think I'd be at....you see on thurs-Friday in uni we had a "Managing sick patients" course which was very useful but also scheduled 9-4 on Friday. The wedding was supposed to be over in the capital at 1, so a good 1hrs drive.....so inreply to teh invitation, I had said that i would not be at the ceremony or reception, but would be tehre for the evening.

Well anyway, come Friday morning, and 2 of my coursemates droopped me in it, telling the course trainers (both resus officers) that I was supposed to be at a wedding. They both told me to stop being silly and to miss the course and go to the wedding. thus I found myself at 11.45 at the church, in time to familiarise myself with the PA rig and do the sound for the wedding, which seemed to go ok.

I then filled my afternoon with a pleasant lunch, and then a trip out to Livingston where I sat drinking eta in a cafe in teh shopping centre and reading a textbook, until it was time to head to the hotel for the evening reception, where betweeen 4 of us we set everything up for the disco.

Then I spent my evening assisting PhilT with his DJ set, which started slow, but really had then packing out the dancefloor by the end. This was followed by the derig and a drive back to Glasgow.....all in all a long, but enjoyable day.

Here it is - Monday again

Well the past week has been a bit of a blur - back working at Somerfield, Uni examboards, and the tech for out biggest event of the year.

The tech went well after a few teething problems on setup day (Thursday). On Thursday I found out that I was to be operating lights for the 3 performance (Thurs, Fri, Sat). This meant a Friday 10am meeting with the in-house Lighting guy who ran through the desk and took some of our programme notes about the look of the event and how much coverage we needed to light the choir of 400, the band, conductor and soloists - a very full stage! Programming complete, it was then my job to actually run the lighting each night, and between the various demands of a dim choir during soloists versus the need for bright lighting for the cameras, I think I achieved an artistic medium. There were a few mistakes and some missed cues, especially on the conductor, but all in all I think I did ok, and it was nice to be able to hear a gig properly from the middle of the audience.

The event derig lasted til about 1.30am, then I escorted the video kit back to Edinburgh, where I found myself at 2.45 with 2hrs until the first train to Glasgow, PhilT decided he was still up and about, so I grabebd a taxi and went to see him for an hour or so before heading down to the station (and having an interesting economics discussion with my taxi driver) then catching the London -Fort William Sleeper from Edinburgh to Westerton near Milngavie, then the SPT train down into Glasgow, getting home about 6.40am for a nice sleep. The guard on the sleeper even chose not to charge me, so I did Edinburgh-Glasgow for £1.40!

Work is going ok, it is nice to be back but the place is dead....with all the students away and the BBC (our previously largest local employer) having moved to Pacific Quay. Sales were up on Sunday though due to the West End Festival, and the related burgers, ice cream & apple pies for sale outside the store, and the mountain of booze for sale within the store.

Highlight of the week.

On Tuesday I was sat doing some revision as the afternoon sunshine fell upon my desk and obliterated anything on the computer screen. I got a text from Phil saying he was bored. The conversation went on until I suggested he come to Glasgow for coffee. Phil being impulsive and having a disabled card allowing free train travel thought this was a fantastic idea, and he came through.

I met him at the station at 5.30 (I was late due to reading the next chapter of my book in the adjacent WHSmith Reading Library). We wandered to my flat, where Phil expressed his approval of the lift, and that my flat was cleaner than he thought it would be since I am a student! Hrumpf!

We then went round to my local restaurant which although an italian restaurant has mostly eastern european staff and also makes rather good steaks and burgers. I was stuffed after only a starter and main course....(garlic and rosemary foccacia to start and a plain burger (with what looked like a whole salad stuffed in the bun as well with fries and I had a couple of Phil's side of Oion rings) and had no room for dessert sadly. Phil said he had room but would sacrifice the calories as I had Uni work to be getting on with. Phil also insisted on paying which was very kind of him.

I put him on the 9pm train then wandered home to study.

I thing when i get my car I hope I shall be as random and just pop to see people because I can - my friends may hope this is not teh case though.

Can I charge for advice?

Obviously as a student I am not yet an NHS employee.
Does this mean I can engage in private practice and charge for my opinion?
Without GMC registration, can I be held accountable for this advice?

Why you may ask....will in the past week, the number of health related questions I have been asked has increased, like 10-fold. And little Miss P from work has been on holiday.

It all started last weekend when the alchie of Ayr had a numb thumb, then at DIME last night, John H was asking me all about his pulled hamstring the other week where I gave advice by text. Then tonight at work, Racoline was asking about her cracked ribs (she has a past history of needing advice - trapped nerves, cracked ribs etc). Then PhilT81's blog is going on about one of his eyes changing colour, so it was back to the textbooks again to look that up.
